Stromboli is one of Europe's most active volcanoes, erupting almost continuously for over 2,000 years. Located in the north of the Aeolian Islands, it rises to just over 900 metres and dominates the Mediterranean with its dark silhouette. Its regular explosions, often visible at night, have earned it the nickname of ‘lighthouse of the Mediterranean’.
Around the volcano, the nature park protects a unique landscape: steep slopes of solidified lava, hardy Mediterranean vegetation and spectacular sea views. The island, both wild and inhabited, combines the raw power of nature with the discreet presence of small fishing and seafaring communities.
